The following is a list of methods seminars and workshops in chronological order. This list includes training opportunities in research methods offered by AcademyHealth at the National Health Policy Conference and the Annual Research Meeting.

On-Demand Seminar: Need Data? Resources for Health Research at ICPSR (click on the "Training" tab)
Free to AcademyHealth members: Learn about the wide variety of health-related data available from Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). The presentation will describe the kinds of data and other resources housed in our archive, how you can access them, and the tools available for statistical analyses. Directors of the following specialized archives at ICPSR will discuss their mission, archival holdings, and research resources:
  • Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR), Health and Medical Care Archive (HMCA)
  • National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP)
  • National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging, (NACDA)
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA)

Free Webinar: Publishing in eGEMs: Learning How to Learn from New Data in HSR
Hear more about eGEMs (Generating Evidence & Methods to improve patient outcomes) from the editors of this new peer-reviewed journal, which publishes innovations and lessons learned using electronic clinical data to advance research, quality improvement (QI), and improve patient outcomes. eGEMs provides a credible venue for:

  • Submissions that focus on informatics and research procedures and practices, and the methodological building blocks of learning health systems
  • Rapid review and timely dissemination by highly qualified peers from multiple disciplines and sectors
  • New publishing formats (e.g. visualizations)

Current authors will discuss their papers and rationale for submitting to eGEMs. The webinar will take place from 1- 2:30pm ET on April 3, 2013.

Conference: APA Quality Improvement 2013
 The American Pediatric Association (APA) is hosting its 3rd Annual Advancing Quality Improvement Science for Children’s Healthcare Research Conference. The Conference will focus on state-of-the-art methods for pediatric healthcare quality improvement (QI) research and bring together leaders and innovators in pediatric QI research. Methodological challenges will be discussed and the group will develop an agenda for further improving and applying QI research methodologies, as well as integrating evidence-based quality improvement strategies into front-line QI efforts such as maintenance of certification.
